Oakey region
Oakey, a 20 minute drive west from Toowoomba and Jondaryan an additional 15 minutes drive, offers a rich history set amongst a patchwork of paddocks and crops.

  • Museum Australian Army Flying with displays of every kind of aircraft flown by the Australian Army since World War 11 as well as other models from 1912
     
  • Jondaryan Woolshed, Australia's oldest woolshed still in working order celebrates the role of the wool industry in Australia with historic buildings, machinery, equipment and collections
     
  • The annual Australian Heritage Festival held annually in August at the Jondaryan Woolshed brings history alive with re-enactments of the lifestyles and skills of our rural pioneers.
     
  • Darling Downs Soaring Club is at McCaffrey field , Bowenville near Jondaryan for a silent gliding birds eye view of the region
     
  • Bunya Mountains National Park is home to the world’s largest bunya forest with a network of walking tracks through a range of forest types formed 30 million years.

Venues

  • Oakey Cultural Centre has the capacity to accommodate up to 500 people and is a suited to conferences, displays and exhibitions. The centre facilities can also be augmented with meeting rooms and is fully air conditioned. On-site amenities include a commercial kitchen, bar, stage, sound and lighting.
     
  • The Oakey Community Centre can cater for up to 100 people and includes a commercial kitchen, toilets, tables and chairs, a piano and heating.
     
  • The Jondaryan Woolshed Historical Museum and Park is available for hire for functions with on-site accommodation options including shearer's quarters, campsites, caravan sites, self-contained cabin and safari tents.

Pittsworth and Millmerran
Around 20 minutes drive north west from Toowoomba to Pittsworth and another 20 minutes to Millmerran, this area is primarily agricultural with sheep, cattle, fish farming, cotton, broccoli, intensive piggeries, egg farms, geraldton wax flowers, olives, organic farming, feedlots, cereal grains and timber.

  • Millmerran is best known for its Camp Oven Festival on October 2010. Held biennially, taste the delights, skills and traditions of cooking using an open fire.
     
  • Commodore Peak Lookout for a view of the town of Millmerran, power station and coal mine
     
  • Mt Basalt Reserve covering 10 hectares with rare geological formations, walking tracks, a sheltered lookout and 19km from Millmerran
     
  • Headquarters for Sporting Shooters Association of Australia at Millmerran
     
  • Fresh water fishing at Yarramalong Weir, Broadwater, Back Creek Millmerran, Cecil Plains Weir and Cecil Plains Homestead
     
  • Cecil Pains Cotton Gin – tour one of the largest gins in the southern hemisphere during harvest from April to July

Venues

  • Camp Western, 21 km west of Millmerran has hiking, orienteering, archery, ropes, obstacle course, swimming and canoeing. Dormitory style accommodation and camping are available.
     
  • Millmerran Community and Cultural Centre is a modern fully air-conditioned complex with an auditorium, large foyer/bar area with cold room and kitchen facilities. Maximum capacity in the auditorium is 300 theatre style or 220 people for dining. A sound system, piano and lighting are available.
     
  • Pittsworth Community and Technology Centre has five different areas catering for up to 200 people theatre style. Wireless internet technology is available along with audio visual facilities.

Highfields and Crows Nest
Ten minutes drive north from Toowoomba, Highfields and adjoining Cabarlah abound with craft shops, boutiques and cafes. A further 30 minutes is Crow’s Nest, whose surrounding area is blessed with natural beauty

  • Spring Bluff Railway Station near Highfields is the place to enjoy a Devonshire tea while admiring the award winning gardens
     
  • Crow’s Nest National Park has a beautiful, cool rock pool. Activities include bushwalking, bird watching, picnicking, nature study, camping and swimming
     
  • Ravensbourne National Park with spectacular views has numerous walking tracks through wet sclerophyll forest and remnant rainforest
     
  • Beutel’s lookout at Ravensborne scenic reserve adjoining the National Park is perfect for a picnic for a large group
     
  • Lake Cooby has freshwater fishing and boating
     
  • Lake Cressbrook offers fishing, windsurfing,power boating, sailing, beach volleyball, camping and excellent barbecue and picnic areas
     
  • Perseverance Dam has picnic facilities and bush walking

  • Highfields Cultural Centre is a purpose built venue catering to conferences, trade shows, functions and performances, with seating for 500 theatre style and full catering available on site.
     
  • Perseverance Recreation Centre Lodge at Perseverance Dam is an excellent accommodation base for those participating in outdoor education experiences and is an ideal location for school and community group camps.
     
  • Reflections – Lake Cooby has stunning views over Lake Cooby, perfect for water based team building activities along with low and high ropes and climbing wall. The conference centre seats 80 theatre style.
